The Cost of Your "Scramble"
The more time you spend in your Scramble, the less time you have to give your gift to the world.
We all have one core emotional need that drives our lives.
I call it your Primal Question. It's the thing that’s been silently steering your thoughts, actions, and emotions since early childhood. Here's what most people don’t realize.
Your Primal Question is high stakes.
There are two ways to approach your Primal Question. You can live FOR your Primal Question, or you can live FROM your Primal Truth. The difference is night and day.
Living for your Primal Question?
It's exhausting. It's like being on an endless hamster wheel, constantly seeking validation from the world around you. Your boss, your spouse, even that angry driver who cut you off – they all get to determine your emotional state.
One "no" to your Primal Question and boom!
You're in the Scramble.
The Scramble is the frantic dance we do when our Primal Question gets answered with a "no" or a "maybe". We scramble to force the answer back to a "yes", often in the most unhealthy ways. It's inefficient, it's draining, and worst of all, it keeps us from our true potential.
But living from your Primal Truth?
That's a different story. Instead of asking the world if you're safe, loved, or good enough, you answer that question for yourself. You flip the script from "Am I...?" to "I am."
It's efficient, effective, and puts you back in control.
Now, here's the real cost of living in your Scramble: Your Primal Gift.
Your Primal Gift is that unique superpower you've built over the years by interacting with your own Primal Question. It's the special sauce that makes you world-class in your relationships, career, and life.
Here's the thing – it's a zero-sum game.
The more time you spend in your Scramble, the less time you have to give your gift to the world.
Let that sink in for a moment.
It's not just about you anymore. When you're stuck in your Scramble, the world misses out. Your family misses out. Your friends, your colleagues, your community – they all miss out on the incredible gift only you can give.
The more time you spend taking, the less time you have for giving.
It's crucial to get this right.
Here's some good news that might surprise you:
You don't need everyone to answer your Primal Question.
In fact, the group of people who you allow to answer it should be small. Really small. Like, count-on-one-hand small.
Here's who needs to answer your Primal Question with a clear yes:
Yourself (This is the biggie!)
Your spouse & close friends
God
That's it.
No one else should get the sacred privilege of meeting (or rejecting) your most important need in life. Everyone else? They need to get your Primal Gift.
Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Mike, this sounds great and all, but how do I actually do this?"
Great question.
Here's your action item for today:
Take a moment to reflect on your Scramble.
What does it look like for you? What do you do when your Primal Question is answered with a no? How much time and energy do you spend trying to get the world to answer it with a yes?
Now, imagine what life would look like if you lived from your Primal Truth. How much more energy would you have? How much more of your gift could you give to the world?
Remember, your Primal Question isn't a bad thing.
It's not a personality type you're trapped in or a problem you need to solve. It's a gift you get to embrace and share with the world. But first, you need to answer it for yourself.
You are safe. You are secure. You are loved. You are wanted. You are successful. You are good enough. You have a purpose.
Whatever your Primal Question is, I want you to know that the answer is "yes". It always has been.
Now go out there and give your gift to the world. We're waiting for it.
Warmly,
Mike Foster
