Have you ever felt out of sync with your life?
Like you're pushing hard for growth but nothing's happening? Or maybe you're beating yourself up for not being as productive as you think you should be? If so, you might be trying to live in the wrong season.
Just like nature, our lives ebb and flow through different seasons.
But here's the kicker - unlike nature, our personal seasons don't always follow a set order. Understanding which season you're in can be a game-changer for your emotional well-being and personal growth.
Why This Matters
Recognizing your current life season matters because it gives you permission to be exactly where you are. It helps you set the right expectations, focus on the right things, and move forward in a way that's authentic to your current season of life.
If you've been feeling stuck, frustrated, or guilty about where you are in life, this framework can bring you a sense of peace and purpose. It's about working with your life's natural rhythms instead of constantly fighting to swim "upstream".
Where Most People Go Wrong
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is trying to force themselves into the wrong season. They think life should always be moving forward in a straight line. That they should always make the same amount of progress (or more) in consecutive seasons.
But life doesn't work that way.
Sometimes, after a winter, what you really need is a summer. You need rest, replenishment, time to recover. Or maybe you need a fall, a time to let go of some things before you can grow again.
What You Should Do Instead
The big tip I want you to take away is this: Recognize your current season and align your actions and expectations with it.
Each season of life requires a different approach. You wouldn't plant seeds in winter, right? So why are you trying to start a new venture when you're in a season of survival?
Instead of fighting against your current season, learn to work with it. This alignment can bring so much peace and progress to your life.
The Four Seasons of Life
Let's break down these seasons:
Fall - The Season of Letting Go
This is a time of release. Just like leaves falling from trees, it's when you need to let things go. Maybe you're releasing a relationship, a job, or toxic beliefs about yourself.
Winter - The Season of Survival
If you're just trying to get through to the next day, that's okay. Lower your expectations and focus on getting through. It might be a season of grief, heaviness, or struggling with mental health.
Spring - The Season of New Growth
This is about renewal and excitement. It's time to take risks, push forward, and hustle a bit. Leverage this energy to create positive outcomes.
Summer - The Season of Rest
This is all about replenishment. Think of it as laying by the pool, sipping iced tea. It's crucial, but often overlooked in our lives, especially in American hustle culture.
Remember, these seasons aren't sequential in our lives. You might go from winter straight to summer if you need replenishment before growth.
Your Action Item This Week:
Identify your current season.
Reflect on where you are right now, and adjust your expectations of yourself accordingly. Find rest in the fact that seasons don’t last forever. If you’re in a season of spring, know that rest will come. If you’re in a season of winter, know that it won’t always be this hard. New life is coming soon.
Lean into your current season and find the peace you’ve been looking for.
Warmly,
Mike Foster
P.S. If you found this helpful, forward it to a friend who needs permission to be in their current season.
