Hey friend,
Welcome back to the Primal Question Newsletter.
Last week, I told you about the brand new Primal Question Assessment we’re about to launch in November, and why clarity and confidence about your question matter so much.
Even if you already know your Primal Question, make sure you take the new assessment when it launches. Most people will confirm their result. Some will discover that another question has been stronger all along.
Either way, that knowledge (by itself) isn’t enough.
Your Primal Question is the source of much of the friction you experience in your life and relationships.
It’s behind many of the moments that make you ask, “Why do I do that?”
Why do I say yes when I want to say no?
Why do we keep having the same fight?
Why can’t I turn my mind off at 2 a.m.?
Why do I pull away from the people I love?
Why can’t I break this habit?
Your Primal Question often explains it, but knowing your question doesn’t automatically change it.
Without a clear plan of action, you will stay stuck in the same frustrating loops.
We’ve always tried to equip you with tools and action steps at every stage of the Primal Question journey, but my team and I are learning more and more every single day. At this point, I’ve been researching and developing the Primal Question model for nearly eight years. I’ve had thousands of one-on-one conversations with clients. We’ve done over 200,000 assessments.
Here’s one of my biggest takeaways from all this:
Many of us are hoping to resolve 20-year patterns with 20 minutes of effort.
It’s not that we do nothing about our problems.
It’s just that we don’t do nearly enough. We’re poking our problems instead of attacking them. I don’t say this to shame anyone. I just think we need a dose of reality. We can get clarity on our core drivers in an instant, but we can’t expect decades of deep-seated patterns to suddenly disappear in a day.
We need to up the ante.
The truth is, you won’t change your life with half your attention. You won’t repair broken relationships by doing the bare minimum. If you’re serious about your growth, you have to put more skin in the game.
You have to match the size of your investment (of time, energy, and yes, money) to the size of the problem.
That’s true for every one of us, myself included.
That’s why my team and I have been working tirelessly on this new free assessment and the new products that come after it. Our mission over the next few years is to equip you to take massive action. And next month, we’re launching the biggest thing to help you with this since I wrote The Seven Primal Questions book.
Introducing: The Primal Question Profile
Our new assessment will accurately identify your Primal Question.
Your Primal Question Profile shows you what to do about it. It will guide you to stop unwanted patterns and reduce friction in your relationships, based on your specific assessment results.
It comes with all sorts of new insight:
Your Satellite Question (your second strongest question)
Your percentage scores across all seven questions
Your Kid Logic and Scramble patterns
And much more
More importantly, it helps you turn that insight into action.
I can’t cover everything today, but here are three specific things I think you’re going to be excited about.
1. Your Primal Question in 3 Key Relationships
The holidays are right around the corner.
For many of us, gathering with family comes with as much anxiety as it does excitement. We’re already bracing for what’s coming. The same comments. The same fights. The same tension in the air that nobody will name.
Here’s the good news: knowing everyone’s Primal Question makes holidays easier.
Your Profile provides new insight and action steps for three key relationships:
Romantic Relationships: Why you keep having the same fight, and what you need most from your partner.
Parenting Relationships: How your question shows up in your conversations with your kids, and your biggest blind spot as a parent.
Work Relationships: Your greatest strength on a team, and what throws you off at work.
I touched on these broadly in the book, but I didn’t get into each question. Your Profile will show you how your specific question shows up in these 3 key relationships (and what to do about it).
When the people you love take it too, it gets even better. That’s why we’re working hard to get this into your hands before Thanksgiving, so you can share it with your whole family, deepen your connections, and actually enjoy the holidays again.
2. The Primal Question Growth Map
Here’s the hard truth about coaching: I’m rarely there in the moment.
The breakthrough happens in a session. But the real test comes three days later, when your spouse says something that stings, or your boss sends a vague email, and you feel your Scramble kicking in. That’s why we built a new tool to help you in that exact moment.
The Growth Map is a simple, one-page worksheet that walks you through six steps any time you feel stuck or shaken. It helps you notice what’s happening inside you, name the question that’s getting a no, and choose a better next step before you default to your old patterns.
It’s a tool to help you learn to lead yourself, and it’s included with your Profile.
3. Your Primal Question Dashboard
This is your new online home for everything Primal Question.
The best tools are the ones you keep coming back to. That’s why your Profile won’t live in your inbox or a downloads folder. We custom-built an online dashboard where your Profile, your Growth Map, and every bonus we add are always one tap away, right from your phone.
I said it earlier, and I meant it: this emphasis on “action” applies to me too.
This whole initiative has rattled my “Am I safe?” question, challenged my need for control, and forced me to anchor into my Primal Truth like never before.
But it’s all worth it. My team and I have put more time, more energy, and more of ourselves into this than anything since the book, because we believe you deserve more than another aha moment. You deserve a path forward to deeper relationships, especially around the holidays.
So here’s my challenge to you.
When it launches, don’t just read it for yourself. Use it. Bring it to your marriage, your kids, your team, and your Thanksgiving table.
Our target release date for the new assessment and the Primal Question Profile is November 16.
More details, and a few surprises, are coming over the next couple of weeks.
To your growth,
Mike Foster
